Cuba Trip: Thanksgiving 2016 As some of you may have heard, we are planning a trip to Cuba! This will be through Global Ministries, our Disciples/UCC mission arm that has long-established ties with several Cuban partner organizations. Below are some relevant questions/answers: Who? Members/Participants (age 13 and over) of First Christian Church with a flexible attitude, friendly spirit, and a genuine desire to pursue faith in a new cultural context. What? This trip is about connecting with people of faith in a different cultural context, and supporting the work they are doing. There are several Cuban partners (a seminary, a community center, local denominations/congregations) we will visit to learn from and work with; our focus will be on relationships and support. Where? Um, Cuba. When? The week of Thanksgiving, 2016. Exact travel dates and itinerary are yet to be determined, but we’ll likely leave on or around Saturday, November 19. Why? Because faith changes when given cross-cultural perspective. Because we do a lot of local outreach and service (which is great), and give to global causes, but should also act globally. Because Cuba is opening up. Because the love of God reaches farther than we know. How (much)? The trip may cost up to $2,000 per person. That figure is on the high end, and there is some financial assistance in our budget for those who need it, but count on contributing/raising the bulk of that figure. Next step: Attend one of the informational meetings in the Fireside Study on either Wednesday, March 9 at 7:00 pm, or Sunday, March 13 at 12:15 pm. Please RSVP for these meetings to Mark Knowles (email@example.com) by March 7.
