At First Christian Church we try to provide ways of learning for all ages…on Sundays and weekdays, in formal classes and informal settings, from knowledge-based instruction to practice-based experiences.

Sunday morning learning sessions are offered both before worship and after. The later session (11:15) features classes and groups for the whole family. Babies and toddlers (ages 0-3) may choose to stay in the nursery from 10:45-Noon, or spend time with caregivers in worship and small groups. Older children may participate in Children Worship & Wonder during the 10:00 service, then move to Learning Hour classes for hands-on learning and activities. Teenagers are encouraged to stay after worship for project-based activities and discussion.

Lenten Focus: Spiritual Practices for Families

The Time with Children (of all ages) throughout Lent will be focused on how to follow Christ in our daily lives. The most visible practice will be feeding the hungry as we support a food drive for Monroe County United Ministries (MCUM). Children will bring MCUM donations forward each Sunday and lay them at the cross; then, we’ll focus on different ways to pray, giving of our time, and other themes. To learn more about MCUM and their current needs, click here and check out their February newsletter or just browse the site.

The Joyful Noise Choir Sings February 18

The Joyful Noise Choir is for anyone. Director Jan Harrington can help any monotone angel learn and sing simple songs. We practice each Sunday morning, immediately following worship, for about 10 minutes. Preschoolers and adults of all ages then bring their voices together in praise and truly make a joyful noise every 4-8 weeks during worship.

Each month the Avenues Team introduces a new spiritual practice and leads us through one example during weekly worship. Our practice for September 10-October 1 is contemplative prayer. Below are links to bulletin inserts guiding you through each practice.

If you have a family with young children or teenagers, come to Parent Cafe (Sunday mornings 11:15-Noon in Room 2, lower level) to discuss how you might adapt the practice for your family. Or download the “five finger prayer” or the “prayer trip with God” form for younger children.
